Singing together is not just a nice thing.
It is not just a source of happiness and joy.
It is that, but more.
It is not just a way to feel warm, cozy, and affirmed.
It works for that, but it is more.
It is necessary.
If we cannot sing together, we are hopeless.
We cannot build community.
We cannot find common emotions or ground.
We cannot find harmony.
And it is harmony we need, not one unison sound, but the blending or rhythms and tonalities in such a way that they make music and not cacophony -- which requires as much listening as projections.
